About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we're talking with Dr. Jane Smith, an expert in trauma-informed education and the instructor for our new course, "Executive Certificate in Trauma-Informed Classroom Management." Dr. Smith, can you tell us a bit about what inspired you to create this course? GUEST: Absolutely, I've seen firsthand how trauma can significantly impact a student's ability to learn and engage in the classroom. I wanted to equip educators with the skills and strategies they need to create safe, supportive learning environments for all students. HOST: That's wonderful. Can you share some current trends you're seeing in trauma-informed classroom management? GUEST: Certainly, there's growing recognition of the importance of understanding and addressing Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their impact on learning. Schools are increasingly seeking evidence-based strategies to foster resilience and positive relationships, ultimately improving student engagement and academic outcomes. HOST: Speaking of strategies, what challenges have you encountered in teaching this subject, or that your students have faced while learning? GUEST: One challenge is helping educators move beyond traditional discipline models and embrace a trauma-informed approach, which can be a significant shift in mindset. Additionally, finding the time and resources to implement new strategies can be difficult, but the benefits for students and teachers alike make it worth the effort. HOST: That's true. Now, looking to the future, where do you see trauma-informed classroom management heading in the next 5-10 years? GUEST: I believe we'll continue to see a greater emphasis on social-emotional learning and mental health support in schools. Trauma-informed practices will become an integral part of teacher training and professional development, leading to more positive, inclusive classrooms that empower students to reach their full potential. HOST: Dr. Smith, thank you so much for sharing your insights and expertise with us today. We're excited to offer this course and help educators make a real difference in their classrooms and students' lives. GUEST: Thank you for having me. I'm confident that participants will find the course engaging, informative, and transformative for their teaching practice.
