About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm thrilled to be joined by Dr. Sofia Patel, an expert in digital accessibility and the lead instructor for the Postgraduate Certificate in Inclusive Technology Advocacy. Sofia, can you tell us a bit about your personal experiences that led you to advocate for inclusive technology? GUEST: Absolutely, I've always been passionate about equal opportunities, and when I saw how many people were excluded from the digital world due to accessibility issues, I knew I had to do something. HOST: That's inspiring. Now, in terms of industry trends, what are some current challenges or developments in the field of inclusive technology? GUEST: There's a growing awareness of the importance of inclusive design, but many organizations still struggle to implement it effectively. Also, emerging technologies like AI and VR pose new challenges and opportunities for accessibility. HOST: Indeed, those are important considerations. When teaching this course, what are some common challenges students face while learning about inclusive technology advocacy? GUEST: Many students find it challenging to grasp the legal and ethical aspects, as well as the technical side. But once they understand the big picture and the impact of inclusive technology, they become more motivated. HOST: That's a great point. As we look to the future, what do you envision for the evolution of inclusive technology and its advocacy? GUEST: I believe we'll see more emphasis on proactive inclusion, rather than reactive accommodation. The ultimate goal is to create a digital world that's accessible and usable by everyone, regardless of their abilities. HOST: Dr. Sofia Patel, thank you so much for sharing your insights and expertise with us today. It's been a pleasure learning about the Postgraduate Certificate in Inclusive Technology Advocacy and how it's empowering professionals to champion digital accessibility. GUEST: Thank you for having me. It's been a pleasure discussing this important topic with you.
