About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today we're talking with Dr. Jane Smith, an expert in learning disabilities and the instructor for our new Graduate Certificate in Understanding Learning Disabilities. Dr. Smith, can you tell us a bit about your personal experience with learning disabilities? GUEST: Absolutely, I've spent over two decades working with students who have a range of learning differences, from dyslexia to ADHD and autism spectrum disorder. It's a passion of mine to help these students thrive. HOST: That's wonderful. Now, in your opinion, what are some current industry trends relevant to this course? GUEST: There's a growing emphasis on inclusive teaching practices and differentiated instruction. Assistive technology is also becoming more prevalent, helping to level the playing field for students with learning disabilities. HOST: Yes, I can see how those trends would be beneficial. But I'm sure there are challenges too. Can you share some of the challenges faced in this field or while teaching this subject? GUEST: Certainly. One of the biggest challenges is misconceptions about learning disabilities. Many people still think they're a result of low intelligence or lack of effort. Dispelling these myths and helping people understand the neurological underpinnings of learning disabilities is crucial. HOST: That's a great point. Now, looking to the future, what do you see as potential developments in this area? GUEST: I believe we'll see more personalized learning plans and interventions, as well as increased use of technology to support learning. It's an exciting time for this field. HOST: Indeed, it sounds like it. Well, thank you, Dr. Smith, for sharing your insights with us today. And for our listeners, if you're interested in learning more about understanding learning disabilities, be sure to check out our Graduate Certificate program. Thanks for tuning in!
