About this Podcast

HOST: Welcome to our podcast, today I'm thrilled to be speaking with an expert in the field of agri-tech ethics. Can you tell us a bit about your experience and what drew you to this area? GUEST: Absolutely, I've spent over 20 years working in agricultural technology, and I've seen firsthand the ethical challenges that come with rapid innovation. I was drawn to this area because I believe that responsible innovation is key to a sustainable future in agriculture. HOST: That's a great perspective. The course you're teaching, 'Executive Certificate in Agri-Tech Ethics', seems very timely given the current advancements in precision farming, gene editing, and data privacy. Can you share some insights on these topics? GUEST: Certainly, precision farming is a game-changer, but it also raises questions about data ownership and privacy. Gene editing holds immense potential, but we need to consider its impact on biodiversity and food security. And data privacy in agri-tech is a major concern, as the use of data becomes more prevalent. HOST: Yes, those are critical issues. And I imagine there are challenges in navigating these complex topics. What would you say are the biggest hurdles in teaching or learning about agri-tech ethics? GUEST: The biggest challenge is the rapid pace of technological change. It's difficult to keep up with the ethical implications of new technologies as they emerge. Another challenge is the interdisciplinary nature of the field, as it requires knowledge in technology, ethics, policy, and more. HOST: That's true, the field is quite broad. Looking to the future, how do you see the landscape of agri-tech ethics evolving? GUEST: I believe we'll see more focus on social equity and environmental sustainability. As technology advances, we need to ensure that the benefits are distributed equitably and that we're considering the environmental impact of our innovations. HOST: That's a powerful vision. I'm excited to see the impact of this course on future leaders in agri-tech. Thank you for joining us today and sharing your insights. GUEST: My pleasure, thank you for having me.
